With out going in to too much detail, does anybody know of a simple autopilot that could be used to do the following?
1. flip a switch to allow autopilot to takeover
2. autopilot finds its gps coordinates
3. Aircraft takes off
4. flies straight up to a defined altitude
5. hovers at that altitude
6. returns to the point it took off from
Every autopilot I've come across does more complicated things like flying to way points programmed from a laptop or just hovers in place at the point you turn the gps tracking feature on. I don't need my quadcopter to fly around at all. Simply straight up and straight back down without the use of a transmitter preferably.
I feel like this is something that may have been done in the early days of these autopilot boards, but I dont now where to find them

You always need a transmitter. Things will go wrong and unless you want the AP to continue you should be ready to take control and correct it. There are also times when perhaps you made a mistake and you only realise it once in the air, without a tx you cant correct it easily and quickly. Of course you could have a radio and a ground station, but thats even more stuff compared to just a tx + rx.
