This might not be so much of a problem, but something that is puzzling me.
I followed the steps exactly as specified here. This worked perfectly..I even went as far to reprogram it all and set up the switches in a logical pattern. Again, no problem, the modes work perfectly as verified by the PWM in the test menu of the CLI.
So on to the question...I set up the Tx to output the Gear switch on Ch. 5. As per the instructions, I don't have Ch.5 connected( I have Ch6 on the Rx going to Ch5 on the APM). So that's where I'm getting confused. I told the Tx to use Ch. 5, but it's really using Ch. 6.
I only ask because I want to use channel 6 & 7 as camera dials. And from what I've read, I should never connect ch. 8, so I just never have.
Any ideas what I"m doing wrong, if anything??

You have not done anything wrong. It is a limitation of the 9x that we waste a channel to do the required mixing. You should still be able to to do the camera setup by assigning dials to 7&8 on the radio and connecting them to the correct inputs on the apm.
I hope this helps as I don't use camera setup and my primary radio is a 12fg. I only worked out the 9x mode setup because I saw people needed a bit of help with it. Another solution is to upgrade the 9x to er9x firmware, then you can do whatever you like and don't have to waste a channel.
