Dears,

I'm back to the world of Arducopter since a few months of absence due to personal problems and I didn't keep up with all the things that happened.

Browsing around I saw that there are 4 firmware available:

I was wondering it they all run on the same HW (both electronics and frame) and what you would recommend using.

And also if there is comparison of the various features available in different versions

  • I need to know if there is a difference between the Ardupilot Mega and the Arducopter. I received an ArduPilot Mega with GPS, xbee, and magnetometer. While ordering, I could choose in between the code for a quad or for a fixed wing. I chose quad, since that is what I have flying and working right now (with a GU 344 triaxial gyro)
If I follow the instructions of assembly of the Arducopter instead of the ArduPilot Mega, will it work the same? If I download all the software for the Arducopter and start building it and setting up the configuration; will I burn anything?

Thank you very much!!! This community is so overwhelming, No matter how much I read and browse, there is always something new and amazing.

  • I have just built my arducopter purchased from jdrones, i loaded rc2 fine and began configuration with APM mission planner, when it gets to the "set accel offsets" stage it just freezes up! what is the problem? i'm running windows 7 64bit, could that be an issue? or is it possible that the accelerometers are faulty and it is a hardware issue? any help would be very much appreciated!
  • as you may guess for the delay in the response, I've been brought away again :)

But thank you for the answers.

I'll start with the normal arducopter to see if everything works, and then will switch to ArduPirates.

But I have the impression that by the time I finish building the quad, the ACM will be ready :D

  • I have started to build a quadcopter and have decided to use the ardupilot mega w/ sensor shield. I have already recieved the ardupilot from DIY-Drones it is very easy to use. I believe aero, quadcopter, and adurPirates all come from the same back ground. I will be experimenting with the Ardupirates code first. Arduino platform has the most potential for the development and implementation of technology in the drone world so far.

  • ACM (Arducopter Mega) is not officially released yet, so be careful, it has the most features

Ardupirates is current released code, this is the one recommended

Multipilot runs on different hardware (Ardupilot32), it uses a 72MHz ARM processor
