I've got a cheapie Walkera Devo 7 transmitter.  It has worked at up to 800 Feet (250 Meters), but I have no idea of how far it will reach.

I also have a ground station with an Android device running the Andropilot app. It's  connected to a 915 Mhz 3DR radio which is supposed to be good to about 1600 Meters (or 1 mile).    I have the antenna mounted on top of a 2 Meter mast...  I can issue commands (like RTL) etc from the Android device).

I want to try a  mission that will take my 3DR Hex out to a distance of 2300 feet (700 Meters) and then return home.   If the Hex loses the transmitter signal during the mission, will anything bad happen?  (I don't have TX signal loss set in failsafe right now).

If fail safe is not set the copter should complete the mission. You can test this by flying a short mission and power off your transmitter. You can also set fail safe and set the option to continue mission with the lose of the transmitter.
