A couple of questions

Hello all,

I mounted my APM2.5 on a Bixler to test the hardware and learn how to program the various parameters before trying them on a bigger model.

Yesterday and today I made several flights to test the various modes stabilize, fbw, rtl, etc.

In the last two flights I tried a route with several waypoints and finally the automatic takeoff and landing systems.

The auto takeoff working properly and the engine starts automatically as soon exceeds the speed threshold. I have not yet understood whether you can take off from the ground with the landing gear but I'm reading the manual to understand how to to do it.

I must say that it works very well above my expectations, and I have to congratulate the group of developers because you have got a fantastic result.

I have a couple of questions to ask:

in the landing process I set a waypoint on the long final of the landing direction, but the model has arrived at the point of landing a bit high. At this point I took the commands manually and after a go around I landed in manual mode. I have not yet mounted the airspeed sensor and I suppose that detects the speed from the GPS, the autopilot can not slow down the model beyond a certain limit to prevent stalling. The question is this: if in this case I do not take manual control, the model lands later or restart the engine and returning in flight ?

The second question is this: Is it possible to reset the altimeter before starting the flight?

Many thanks for any replies

  • Dear Fausto

With my Multiplex "Mentor" equipped with the APM 2.5 I face the same problem. The aircraft flys to high during the landing phase. As the example on wikki shows, the last point has to be a "land" point (no waypoint) with alt 0. Also my Mentor does not descend to ground, it stays roughly 25 m above ground.

    Can anybody help?

    Thanks

  • Hello all,

I confirm that I could not find the parameter that defines the start of the engine for  automatic takeoff.

In my case the engine starts when I launch the model at hand when it reaches a certain speed, I think 3m/s in accordance with the manual.

But I've seen some videos where the model takes off from the ground on the wheels and, the engine starts immediately when the pilot switches the flight mode to auto.

There is a parameter to be set for define when the engine should start?
