I am trying to calibrate my external 3DR GPS/Compass. Under Mandatory hardware and Compass, I set the orientation to "APM with External Compass". Now if i disconnect and reconnect using mission planner, the radio button switches to "Manual".

What is going on here ? (as far as i can see the online Manual only references the old 2.5 hardware with internal compass.

If this behavior is normal and i have my compass pointed towards the front of the plane then what should i have the "Manual" radio button's Rotation set to - i.e ROTATION_NONE ?

thanks

What you are seeing is normal.  The Planners are used to set the configuration of autopilot and compass configuration, but it is not possible to read back the parameters and determine which autopilot and compass orientation you are using

    • thanks - what rotation should i set the dropdown of manual to -give that my compass is pointing forwards ?

Which auto  pilot do you have?

you can either select APM with External Compass and it will fill in ROL_180 in the drop down or

you can select ROLL_180 in the manual box yourself

    • Done - Thanks - Am i missing something in that this information is not in the manual ?

Yep.  It is even right on the Mission Planner / APM Planner 2 menu

    • 3DR APM 2.6 with 3DR external GPS/Compass
