Elevator movement in FBWA

I have not flown my finwing penguin yet. In manual mode the elevator moves alot (100% i would say). In FBWA mode the elevator moves about only 30% up and 30 % down compared to Manual mode. Is this expected? The same looks to be true for the ailerons but not to the same extent e.g 70% up and 70 % down compared to manual.

Yes, that is normal. You have to remember that in FBW modes, it won't let you go past whatever roll/pitch angle you have set in MP. It just tries to maintain that amount of angle. It'll be different for roll and pitch so what you're saying looks about right.

Whatever you do, don't launch in FBW mode. I hand launched my Penguin last year and when I brought my hand back down to the right stick, I found later looking at logs that my hand hit my mode switch and put it in FBWA. Because of that, I couldn't get any height quickly like you could in manual or stabilize and clipped a tree. I had no idea what was happening at the time but found out later. The first thing I did after that was change where my mode switch was so it's on the left side of the transmitter! I just got my plane back together, did a maiden, and just finished installing the APM again. Now I just need to do the calibration setup and then it's back to tuning again.

Good luck with your flight. The Penguin is easy enough as long as you test flew the plane before installing the APM to make sure it's stable and trimmed mechanically. If you did that, then flying with the APM should be a breeze.
