I use like this and no problem, with a filter too.

but doesnt it drop to about 10 volts before landing (depending on what voltage you choose to land at)?
10 volts being below the minimum voltage to power the transmitter ......
3s lipo works fine for 12v VTX applications. I have never seen one of my VTX drop out as voltage falls. You will want to make or buy a low pass filter to have clean video.

Do you have a voltage alarm on you Tx ? Set it accordingly :)
