No previous RC experience. Would you recommend I also purchase a Bixler to practice on, so I don't destroy my ArduPlane immediately after I get it?
Also, as a newb, I'm kind of lost in all of this. Any links or tips would be greatly appreciated. I've lurked for a while, and am piecing together my knowledge. It's slow going right now. I'm currently reading through the manual, so if you have any suggestions of where to proceed after that, I'm all ears.
My main interest is photography, with flight time being maximized. I have no need for real time imaging. Anybody else out there with similar interests?

Hi Kenneth,
I agree with Simon & Neil.
Being able to fly manually is essential.
the simulator I use is FMS. http://modelsimulator.com/
I would highly recommend performing the bixler mods here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuKFTTWxpSk
Re-enforce the hell out of it with Packing tape and carbon rods.
Joining the local model flying club not only hooks you up with friendly people with a wealth of experience and knowledge who will help you get your Bronze Wings but also give you Insurance cover for any damage your plane may cause to persons & property while at the airfield.
My Bixler has a 5000mAh battery, 3DR Radio and GoPro. I can get around 45- 60 minutes flight time.
Talk about jumping in with both feet.
1. Get a simulator
2. Buy 2 Bixlers to start with. They're cheap.
3 Practice on the simulator
4 Practice on the smiulator.
5 Have fun with the Bixlers until you are relaxed while flying and having fun
6. You will know when you are ready to fly the Arduplane
