Cruise speed
Hi,I want to adjust cruise speed. At default settings I have a ground speed of about 42km/h (without airspeed sensor), and I think the optimal speed should be lower. In the mission planner I have value "Cruise speed", default 12m/s. I updated it to 9.5, but don't see any change in actual cruise speed. How to set cruise speed? Are these different settings with RTL speed? For RTL I prefer keep it as is - less efficient, but more reliable. Is it possible to adjust cruise speed during flight, providing…

Are you connecting via USB or telemetry or are you connected via both at the same time? I assume you are using one or the other but it almost sounds like you have both connected at the same time, which if that were the case, would explain the issues you are seeing.
Wouldn't you just update the APM via USB through the MP to upload the new firmware again? I guess if you can't connect via USB only, then that wouldn't work.
Hi Craig,
I did a calibration after uploading their parameter file also set my own motor cruise level, then re-saved parameter files it as my own.
My Bixler-2 corners smoothly on way-points and loiters very well with these settings.
So, the 2560 multiplexes the UART, and that is why they both failed at the same time (USB & Telemetry). I have an USBasp, so I wonder if I can reprogram the 2560 via the SPI connection? I have only found articles on reflashing the PPM module, not the main module.
Graham
Graham, the UART on the 2560 is multiplexed between the USB and the Telem connector.

>>>I have installed my new (and first) board into my Bixler2 and had a few flights to test Stabilise, Loiter, and RTL, everything worked really well (borrowed someones Bixler Parameter file)
You should not just copy somebody else's parameter file into your vehicle unless all of the non-vehicle specific parameters have been stripped out of it, like accelerometer cal and mag cal. etc.
Hi Craig,
would it be a bad connection on both the USB & Telem ports? They were both working before and both stopped at the same time. Maybe they are tied to the same UART or something??
Graham
@Graham that is not a problem with the firmware. It is a problem with your serial connection to the APM. There is no handshaking in Arduino so you can get bad data in the serial comms. What you are seeing are the symptoms of a bad connection.
Can anyone point me to a "Hard Reset" method for the APM 2.5 board?
I have installed my new (and first) board into my Bixler2 and had a few flights to test Stabilise, Loiter, and RTL, everything worked really well (borrowed someones Bixler Parameter file)
All working good, so I ran my first mission today (start small) 8 points all close by, total trip 2.5kms. This also worked really well.
Now the interesting bit, I came back to download the log file.
But the comms seem to have scrambled themselves a bit.
I can still read most of the text in the terminal mode, but it does not respond to the "3x Enter" anymore and Mission Planner fails to communicate too. Both the USB at 115200 & the 915Mhz at 57600 show some proper text and some rubbish.
Both forms of communication worked before, I am running ArduPlane 2.7b and Mission Planner 1.2.66
Is there a mechanical way to reset the firmware back to factory?? As I can no longer do this via the CLI
thanks
Graham
Tried the link for the new software you gave me and the same thing has happened again , it wont open mission planner its come up with errors, its deleted or copied over the old version and left me with the new version that wont work . Do I have to uninstall the old version first , and the drivers ? before I install the new software ? cheers.
Hi Craig , I've tried installing the new software a few times but it wont work for some reason , I tried all three that were on the download page but all of them come up with errors and wouldn't open the mission planner ? , everything I need to run it is also up to date , any ideas ?
@Carloss84
We have made changes to the setup and workflow in Mission Planner. Some menu names have changed and some items have been re-organized. Please download the latest version from http://ardupilot.com/downloads/?category=4&sortby=date
Hi Trent , the apm was plugged in and connected to the internet and had gps. never had this problem last time I was using it and have used it for a while now.
