Before Posting an Issue

Hi All,

Before posting an issue or a problem in the ArduBoat Discussion Forum, please check the wiki table of contents, review the firmware release notes in the subforum, and search that subforum for existing answers to your question. Help avoid duplicate threads by finding other members with the same issue and their solution.

When formulating your post, use a descriptive title such as "rover will not navigate to waypoints in the Auto mode" (not "HELP!" or "Problem").

Please include the following information to help diagnose your query:

  • Describe the problem you are having. What is the expected verses the observed behavior?
  • Provide hardware information such as the brand and version of your autopilot, GPS, radio, and compass, as well as any other pertinent details about your rover setup.
  • What version of the APM: ArdurRover2 firmware version are you running?
  • For navigation issues, provide your tlog and/or dataflash log. Click here for instructions on retrieving a dataflash log.

  • Give it 2 or 3 days in the rice.  If it was salt water your done now.  Fresh water you have a chance.

  • David, good call, underway will keep you posted.

  • Richard;

    Last ditch effort would be to stick it in a sealed container of rice to remove the moisture.  Strange that it worked last night and not now.  Maybe nothing is fried but just some moisture causing electrical issues on the circuit board.

    @Richard,

    Presently I have the older 3DR UBlox LEA-6 GPS/Compasses modules.

    However, I do have one newer 3DR GPS/Compass module that uses the NEO-7M.

    I have had a UBlox M8Q for about a year and when programmed with the 3DR GPS configuration file does not do any better than the older UBlox LEA-6 in performance.

  • @TCIII, thanks, I agree. I think it was moisture and not impact that caused the failure. Whether the moisture entered due to the impact and then caused the failure I'm not sure. But the results are the same . . . it don't work no more.

    What are you using for a GPS+Compass?

    Regards,

    RS

    @Richard,

    The No Fix indicates that the navigation controller is talking to the GPS.

    I suspect that there is a compromised component in the antenna circuit keeping the GPS chip from receiving satellite signals.

  • OK, now I'm in the process of purchasing a new GPS with compass for my APM 2.6.

    Can someone please help me with the differnces between the following:

    1. UBlox LEA-6H GPS with Compass: $100 ish. 5hz update rate.
    2. UBlox NEO-7M GPS with Compass:$44 ish. 10hz update rate.
    3. UBlox M8N-6H GPS with Compass: $60 ish. 10Ghz update rate.

    I prefer # 2 & 3 over #1 as 2 & 3 come in cases, as does 1, but 2 & 3 have the cable enclosed at the GPS end and plugs only at the AMP end.

    If it was moisture that caused the failure of my last LEA-6H then 1 & 2 offer an added layer of protection?

    Also prefer the price of 2 & 3 over 1.

    Any thoughts or experiences with any of the above?

    Regards,

    RS

  • @TCIII,

    Sorry I missed you post.

    Well I got up this morning and I can't get a fix.

    In the past I have been able to get a GPS fix from inside my workshop (including last night), but now I have the UBlox GPS outside unobstructed and no fix.

    I did notice some evidence of humidity on the tin shielding over the main chip.

    I think I may have killed it!

    Thanks again TCIII,

    RS

  • Cheers David, Opened it up and checked the battery. Not sure what I did but its up and running again.

    I'll post my full set-up as soon as I get it all working for those who are looking for a economical entry level to Arduboat.

    Thanks again,

    RS

New to boats looking for a hull suggestion

Hello allI have played around with fixed-wing drones before but am new to boats. I am looking to build a simple boat for the purpose of inspecting a heavily timbered section of river that it is hard to get a manned boat into and am looking for some suggestions on where to start. I don't need a sounder or overly accurate GPS (but both would be good to have). I would really like a high-resolution camera in a dome housing or similar that I could control and take photos with. I would also like a…

Rudder control for kontiki

Hi all,I want to install a rudder on to my kontiki, which is like a submarine which floats on the surface and takes a fishing line out to sea.I am thinking of using an apm 2.8 with gps (because thats what i have) to drive a 20kg servo. The gps should point at a point about 3km out from the beach and the kontiki should follow that course until the timer turns off.I would be grateful for any advise how to go about this.

How to connect 2 Brushless Motors and 1 rudder

Hi, I'm new to Pixhawk. I'm making a boat. I do have 2 brushless motor with ESC and 1 servo which is connected to the rudder. How can I connect them to the Pixhawk 2.4.8. What changes should I bring in the parameters? From readings, I come to know that servo should be connected to RC1 and motor to RC3. But what should I do when I have 2 motors, which are kept in both the ends. Thank you
