Hello Folks,

As I continue to progress in my understanding of my Y6 and drone technology in general, I'm now hoping to start down the path I original intended of going down upon beginning this project, which is research.

In doing extensive thesis work as a environmental biologist, I see major potential in the of such technology.

My first interest in exploring will be the obvious 3D mapping, which I believe I've come to understand on a basic level.

So this leaves me with my second interest which is potential use of sensors. As I am still relatively new when considering the amount of knowledge that exists on this subject, so perhaps someone will be able to guide me in the proper direction.

From my understanding the I2C connection to pixhawk is key to the addition of sensors, would this true?

As an environmental biologist my current goals are to find potential ways of adding co2, ethylene, UV and other data gathering sensors.

Is this as at all possible, and further more would if be possible to have such data relayed of 3dr telemetry in apm planner (osx)? Maybe without extensive coding?

I have found potential sensors i would be hoping to acquire and test if such connection would be even possible or plausible?

Also open to any other sensor suggestions along these lines.

Thanks in advance for any help or input on the subject.

  • Have a look a libelium waspmote.

It would be easy enough to integrate the data from something like that into a custom MAVLINK frame and get your APM/Pixhawk to send it down to your GCS.

    • Thanks for the Reply,

This board does look very interesting indeed! Especially with the ability to custom select the sensors of choice gives this serious potential.

My first question would be, does this work merely with just the wasp mote gas sensor board 2.0 direct to pixhawk or would it require the wasp mote transmitter unit itself? (sorry if i called it by the wrong name)

Also how extensive would it be to incorporate it into my 3dr ground control? I have little to no background in coding or programming in this particular area (mostly apple based work).

Finally, my current configuration for my Y6 is based on limiting weight and power requirements, after much reading my understanding is this unit would use around 5V- 400mah, (i'm probable way off) but would this be a viable estimate?
