Arducopter Battery Choice

Hi Group,

Since batteries are open choice when purchasing the Aruducopter, I was wondering how to best chose a battery. The target vehicle is one with the smaller motors and the 20A ESCs and props. Also, does anyone have the total vehicle weight with the APM 2.5 with GPS and telemeter package and power package as described above? I would like to understand the weight to battery power to optimize flight time, etc. Of course, the follow on question is the same for the beefed up Arducopter. Also, brand names and configurations you found successful. Okay - I'm new at this...

On hexa we use at jDrones always 3S 5000mAh 35C and on quads 3S 3500mAh 35C if there is cameras and other payloiad. If you just fun fly quad then 2200mAh is enough. With original jD ArduCopter you can get around 10-12 minutes flyght time with 2200mAh.

850Kv/10x47props. Using the basic Hex from uDrones, which is 3DR kit assembled. At the time I didn't want to solder or build to much. But I've crashed enough and had to learn to repair my mistakes. LOL. Got to admit, it's been a blast so far.

My recommendation for battery for either a Quad or Hex is 5000mAh 3S1P 30C or higher. Weight of a copter depends on a lot of what is installed. My Hex with small gimbal and GoPro camera, GPS, long legs, sonar, 3DR Telemetry weights just under 2KG. Flight time is about 11 minutes.
    Hope this helps,
    Richard
