Compass

hello,

I had the arducopter outside my house running perfectly in simple mode. I ran in the same location for a few days with no issues with simple mode.

Tonight i drove to a new location about a mile away and when i enabled simple mode it was 90 degrees incorrect to the location where i armed the quad.

So i disconnected power and reconnected again to see if the issue continued. Unfortunately this did not resolve the issue.

why did the compass not work properly

thanks

Damo

I've made a little video here which talks about how to check the health of your compass.

  • Simple mode requires no GPS just a compass.  The direction of flight with a stick push that the copter takes is in the same direction the copter was facing when you armed it. So if you set the copter down facing west, after airborn a stick push will cause the copter to fly westward in simple mode no matter which direction it is facing ariborn.

So if you did not set the copter down at the new location facing the exact same direction as you did at your home location, expect it to fly off in a different compass direction than before.  The compass direction that the copter flys off in depends upon the heading it was facing when you armed it on the ground.

    Hope this helps.
