Hi
I'm not sure how the on board compass setup is supposed to work on a hex. I connect via 915 M link and every thing looks good except the direction on the flight data screen is always out by alot like 180 degrees. Everything flies good in manual and the GPS works correctly. Should I try an external mag? Thanks.

The most likely cause is that your compass offsets or declination are very off for some reason or maybe you have your APM too close to something metal on the frame (look for metal screws near the APM).
In the mission planner's Config, Advanced Parameters, Adv Parameters List you can see both.
or in the status area of the mission planner.
The last possibility is that maybe your APM is just new and the auto calibration of the compass offsets just hasn't had enough time to sort out what the offsets should be although that's a bit unlikely.
Ah..last last possibility is just that you have a lot of metal in your workshop. You could try testing again outside and see if it gets better.
