So I've got 3 3DR Quads that I would like to start using for aerial mapping and a variety of other applications which require cameras other than the GoPro. Has anyone figured a way to mount a dual axis camera mount centered beneath the quad? I would like to fly a Samsung NX1000 or similar camera. Of course, the landing gear will need to be made taller... Anyone done anything along these lines and willing to share?

I'm sure you guys know about Goodluckbuy.com, they have a bunch of Brushless Gimbals and my freind Oliver has had excellent luck with the aluminum GoPro (for a Phantom) one he got, he is using it on his F550 Flamewheel and gets totally smooth 1080P video.
I know you need the next size up, but Goodluck has a lot of them.
The controller Board(s) are open source and virtually free, but eventually you might want to switch it out if you want to do anything fancy.

You certainly can't beat the price and quality is better than you would think.
3dr sells the long legs for their quad so that part is covered.
I'm in the same boat as you actually. For the T3 competition I need to mount my Cannon S95 under my quad. Really we need a roll-pitch camera mount....actually I know that 3dr has one coming but I don't know when it'll arrive so until then I'm still looking.
This might give you a little help.

I was asking the same thing. I threw out the idea of doing series mapping with a multirotor because of the lack of air time. We have gone to fixed wing for a hour of mapping at a time. I just can get so much more done. I save the heli for the fancy video for real estate or whatever.
