I purchased a Steadi Drone QU4D with APM, which also came with a Spektrum DX-5e transmitter and AR600 receiver.
FACT: DX-5e is a 5-channel transmitter and AR600 is a 6-channel receiver.
Interesting point is that the "Trainer" switch is preconfigured for RTL flight mode. How?
Background: I am wanting to reconfigure my system to use my DX-8 which is compatible with the AR600. I should be noted that the DX-8 instruction manual states, page 6, "Note: the DX8 is NOT compatible with the original DSM AR600 receiver." This is a typo according to Horizon Hobby support, and should read "AR600," and in fact IS compatible with the AR600.
DX-5e: it seems that the manufacturer has learned an undocumented fact about the Spektrum DX-5e. The "Trainer" switch triggers DMS code for channel 6, which is read by the AR600 and output on Channel 6. Which means the manufacturer can tie the AR600 Ch 6 to any APM input line, i.e., Input 7, and configure that input line to a specific flight mode, i.e., RTL.
DX-8: So the question is, does the DX-8 "Trainer" button:
- ...do the same, by outputting on channel 6, or
- ... can the DX-8 be configured to trigger on Ch 6?
Any Help?

because the the dx8 is an 8 channel radio, channel 6 on the ar600 would be used by the dx8's normal channel 6 output function
