Hello,
One question on the servo cable from PDB to ESC , the red (+) is really supplying 5 volts or is it just there for mechanical purposes ???, sure the black is (-) ok and the signal (s) comes from APM , but not sure if really the PDB uses the + to power the ESC 5 volts? , need it or can be cut it out?

With JP1 in place, the 5v from the PDB powers the APM, but you should not be using the APM Power Management Module in this scenario.

The ESC has a built in +5V regulator so the servo plug Red is +5V output from the ESC. see below
On the 3DR PDB your red/black cable connects to one of the ESC +5 volt output pins. The red/black cable powers the APM board. http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/AC2PowerDistro
Good Luck!
