Most hexacopters and better will probably do the job. For price and capability check out 3DR. The 3D Robotics APM Copter will likely do it and their X8 octoquad will definitely do it. But please keep in mind that different locations have restrictions on the height that these aircraft can be flown and a thousand feet is well above the limits I'm aware of. Your university may have to ask for a project waiver from whoever the applicable flight authority is for you.
