RTL activated but not sure why

In one of my auto missions I am getting a RTL activated, reproducible every time and i just don't know why.  I look at the logs but I'm just not verbose enough with them to pin point it.

I have flown the mission 4 times and all 4 times the "First Only" RTL in the log is activated not by me.

I can then switch to Stabilize I can fly much further past that boundary so I don't "think" its my controller loss signal.

The other suspicion I had is that it was the Droid Planner loosing its telemetry contact, so I looked at Ground Station Failure FS_GCS_ENABLE and Disabled it, tried again and sure enough the RTL was activated at the exact same spot in the mission as the other 4 times.

This is flown over a wooded park away from houses/power lines/cell.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can tell me from these logs what is activating the RTL, or at least point me in the right direction based on the logs.

    • Thanks, well I never found it :(

  • Look's here http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/flying-arducopter/flight-modes/  , right each mode you have a pwm value range, and upside the modes, you have the current pwm, if you change mode, you can observe that current value changes but oscilate a little, if you have that current value near other mode, when oscilates perhaps give you an error as you have; sorry my bad english check if you don't have an issue here, one time ocurrs to me, perhaps something happens on the same place that repeat the issue there.

    • Cala, Thank you very much, you figured it out :-D

My Current PWM for F Mode 1 (stab) was 1225, which is very close to F Mode 2 PWM of 1231, and my FMode 2 is set to RTL.

I adjusted my Tx to 918 current PWM for FM1, I doubt I will ever see this issue again.

Thanks again for finding this issue, its something I should have noticed but was thinking it was a signal loss or GPS error and I was looking in the wrong place.

I will confirm this when the weather gets better, but Im 99% sure you figured it out.

      Thanks again, Wahoo!

      Ed,

    • Good luck and enjoy flying :D

  • You have a F mode err, check your PWM values in M planner Flight modes page if there isn't very near, You switch voluntary to pos hold? check specially stab and pos hold and RTL values,

    • As soon after it started to climb (RTL I think) I manually entered pos-hold yes.
When you say check your PWM in MP can you tell me what Im looking for?
I do find it odd, still wonder why the RTL was always in same spot all 4 times?

Thanks again for looking at this for me as its ongoing.

  • If it was not that you say you can fly further in stabilize I would have said check that you don't have FENCE setup inside your

mission area. I was following my drone walking down the beach not long ago when it suddenly departed back over my shoulder and headed for home  with me in shock running after it. I had of coarse set my fence to 60m and forgotten about it.Upon hitting the wall RTL was triggered quite correctly. My how we laughed!!!

    • Only alt fence and I was way below, thanks tho
