Sabertooth 2x12 or 2x12rc

Hi all :-)

I have been trolling this group for a while and am ready to get started on a rover now that the weather/daylight is making flying more difficult.

My plan is to have a land based craft that I can test RC gear on before I put it up in the air on planes/copters.  I have an APM already that I am not using and will eventually put it in the rover.

Initially I am looking at a 6 wheel thumper and the Sabertooth 2x12 and want to get things up and running just with RC TX/RX before I add the APM.

My primary question is do I need the Sabertooth 2x12rc to get skid-steer to work without the APM or can I use the normal sabertooth 2x12?  It seems the 2x12 is more powerful for use down the road but I do want to be able to use it without an APM initially...

Thanks!

    @Coty,

    The RC version will work with you R/C receiver when using the mixing mode to provide skid steering without the APM. The R/C version will also work with the APM when using the steering and throttle outputs just like with an R/C receiver.

    The advantage of the Sabertooth 2X12 is that you can use the skid steering mode of the APM to drive each side (output) of this model of Sabertooth which you cannot do with the R/C version. Also the non-R/C version can be programmed for the R/C mode and act just like the Sabertooth 2X12 R/C model.
