What are you doing with your Rover?

Hi All,

I've been reading, and waiting for parts to be delivered and dreaming up strange ideas to use my Rover, for fun, for pranks, for competition, for utility, for anything really, and I thought, what is everyone doing with their platforms?

So if you'd like to share what you're doing with your rover, please share, would be great to hear who has utilized the software in a productive manner.

I have a fun Guinness world book of records idea, but I need to build a network before I tackle it :) I'd like to share it with you all as well, but only if there is interest.

Cant wait to hear from you all!

  • I've had a thought for awhile now, and it would definitely have its own challenges. But I'm curious to see what it would take to drive one of these rovers (autonomously) across Canada. Coast to Coast. I have some ideas to make this happen, but I still need to build up a network of people to team up to make this happen.

I think its an attainable goal. Its just a matter of how much time would be required to make it happen ;)

We test swarming algorithms for copters on our rovers. A lot less chaos when things go wrong!

    • @Chris,

Thats great! I would definitely think that driving brings on less challenges than flying, especially when linking a network of these bad boys together.

I always wondered what practical applications swarming devices can actually be applied to. I'll have to do some more reading.

    @Abe,

I use my rovers to compete at the Sparkfun AVC.

It takes about a year to test new firmware and then tune the rover for my simulated AVC course.

I hope to start a dirt course AVC here in Southern Florida this year on a ROAR course.

I also have several 6WD skid steering rovers that can be used for remote autonomous damage assessment after a hurricane.

I am also building a two pontoon APM equipped skid steering Remote Survey Vehicle to map the depth of the canals, ponds, and small lakes here in Southern Florida using a Garmin Intelliducer.

    • @Thomas,

I can definitely see myself building a Rover specifically for this purpose in a year from now.

Seems like a good enough challenge to keep me in the game if you know what I mean. :)
