After rigging my TX to hold both a black pearl (for FPV) and a smartphone (for Droid Planner), I think what makes more sense is to use a tripod. My intention is to:
- Mount the Black perl on a tripod.
- Ditch the smartphone and attach my Nexus 9 to the same tripod.
Anyone got a similar setup?
I already own the tripod. To attach the Nexus 9, I was thinking of going with this: http://www.istabilizer.com/products/istabilizer-tabflex?gclid=CIT7oo3bqMMCFcXm7AodzEsA-A
Whatever solution I go with needs to be as light weight as possible (for long distance hikes), and stable in rough terrain (the tripod is own is excellent for use on uneven footing).
Any thoughts or recommendations?

Now you've got me thinking though. Maybe the better set up is as you describe (ground station on tripod, FPV monitor on TX). I'm going to experiment both ways.
Here is basically what I use for my Nexus 7: Tablet holder for tripods
No complaints, very light and sturdy.
I have kept my monitor on my TX because, for me, its the best location I have found while flying.
I tried one of these out the other day on a hike and was pretty impressed with it. UniPod
I took the legs off and used it as a hiking stick until I reached a spot where I needed it. Then reattached the legs and set it up to hold my tablet. I wasn't flying that day (wind) but I wanted to find out if it's something I could use.
It is much easier to carry and use then a regular tripod. Being able to use it as a hiking stick is a bonus.
Once locked in place it was very stable. It never seemed like it would just fall over.
I would recommend giving one a try.

Thanks. That looks like it will be more secure than what I had in mind. Ordered it already.
