IRIS jst connector to power FPV and Gimbal

I was wondering if I could splice power off the jst connector on the IRIS's belly to power the 3DR FPV.

Or should I splice into the main power using something like this?

      I'm running a 600mw Immersionrc transmitter and gimbal plugged into the gimbal supply. I have a voltage reg spliced in to run the Gimbal as I'm using 4S batteries and the Gimbal wont handle the 4S voltage but the transmitter will.

      I have the transmitter stuck onto a rear arm with 3 sided foam tape and a cable tie as backup. all works great

    The 3DR FPV kit comes with batteries.  Is your thought to save weight, or something else?  Given the relatively short flights times with the IRIS Battery, I don't know that I would want to siphon off too much power to run the FPV transmitter and (potentially) camera.

      Yeah, weight savings is the primary goal, the fpv doesnt need as that much juice, its only running for about 10 minutes at a time. I am guessing the weight savings out weigh the benefit of a separate power source. But it is just speculation until I can test it.

      Agreed. I feel like a separate battery would be less effective than the few mahs you'd be stealing from the flight battery. This poor quad is already underpowered as it is. then adding a gimbal FPV setup and a second battery would be more than I would be very comfortable with it weighing.

      you should check out the filtered balance leads. i got my set up from fatshark predators but i think they sell just the filtered leads. that way you plug right into the balance wire on the battery so you wont be hurt electronics on board.

      Are there any instructions/schematics on where to install this?  Would it be after the battery itself, or further down the chain?

      That thing looks perfect, I wonder if the filter really helps for clear video.  Let me know how it works out, looks like you will need to plug in 2 connectors every flight though.

      Yes, I'm using the Fatshark filter with a modified JST plug, MinimOSD, GoPro cable and Boscam vTX for FPV. The video is mostly clear. I only have small waves caused by vibrations on the vTX - which is mounted via Velcro between Gimbal and battery door. I need to put some foam in between.

      I'll be interested to see what you come up with.  I've got a 3DR FPV kit on order myself.  I'm also hoping to strap it on the IRIS.  I'll also be curious to see where you decided to mount the transmitter.
