  Hey Melbourne gang, I've been spending many hours doing some remote flying via joystick using the ground control trailer, Mission Planner and FBWB mode, with RFD900 long range radio.

  I've got 5 weeks off work coming up in May. I hope that the next vid I post will be this bad boy flying.

  Time for a catchup? I found a great spot in Clunes VIC. Perfect for planes and quads. HEAPS of km of open council land. Great visibility to test long range flights. I'll be flying here again tomorrow all day if anyone wants to come up. All welcome. PM me.

  My owner builder project in Clunes is finished, so I'm 100% back into drones of the aeroplane variety!!!

  Be aware that some landholders have their own private aircraft / strips and there is also the occasional adrenalin junkie practicing acrobatics overhead.

  The weather on Friday was fantastic for flying.  Would have been awesome on the island. So many good spots to go.

  Hi Scott and David

  I thought that I would chime in here on this issue as it is one that I have researched. It is important that correct information is posted as people may search this thread and follow any advice that is left here.

  David, you re correct in your initial response. Lithium batteries are environmentally friendly. They do not contain heavy metals - like lead that you would find in Lead/Acid batteries.

  The correct method of disposing is as follows:

  1. Discharge the cells completely. You can do this with your charger, or even easier, wire up a standard lightbulb and leave it to run down.
  2. Once at 0v, place the battery in a bucket of salty water for 24 hours. The salty water does two things: conducts a further discharge and renders the Lithium unusable (stabilises)
  3. Remove the battery and cut the leads off (this is to avoid anyone trying to reuse the battery)
  4. Wrap in newspaper and place in your normal household refuse bin.

  Scott: Thank you for the links. You should note that the battery disposal fact sheet (Clean-up Australia) that you provided states:

  "Household/single-use (AA, AAA, C and D or alkaline, carbon-zinc, lithium, silver-zinc): cannot be recycled, safe to be thrown away"
