Trying to update Firmware,  Does the Drones battery need to plugged in to do Update of PX4 Stack Firmware ?

I Installed the latest Qgroundcontrol and it keeps saying to be sure that SD card is plugged in , It is plugged in and it is the original SD card that came with the Pixhawk.

I'm installing a Lightware SF30/D Range Detector on this drone and I want to be sure I install the correct Firmware.
