I left a couple smart batteries fully charged for a couple weeks. Got them out today to discharge down to 50% - just like I do with Iris batteries to keep them healthy.Turns out all the batteries were at 40 or 50%. Does this mean that Solo's smart batteries automatically discharge themselves after a period of inactivity? Phantom batteries do this, but I haven't seen it discussed anywhere for the Solo.If I'm not mistaken (maybe the batteries weren't full to begin with) this is a great feature. One less thing to worry about.

  • This also my experience, that LiPOs loose charge over time. The catch is the higher you charge the faster they loose charge/voltage. I only charge to 4.1V per cell and the charge reduction is much less. It is also my observation that this loss of charge affects the batteries capacity. Charging over 4.1V per cell is not good for the life of the battery. They all have a limit to the number of recharges they can take but this voltage seems to be an optimum.

Storage voltage is usually 3.7V/C and the loss of charge from this voltage is negligible.

Most LiPO chargers want to put 4.2V/C and I think that's to sell more batteries. ;)

  • Well if they were full at 80-100 %, I don't see why it should drain your batteries. Maybe a work around would be to mod the batter with a switch to actually cut off the circuit between the boad and battery. So it would not be able to drain the battery.
    • No. I want them to auto discharge. It's a good thing. I want the batteries to automatically drain to 50% after a week or 10 days of inactivity. I wouldn't want to do anything to prevent that.

It's better for the battery if you store it at 40 or 50%. That's why the newer phantom batteries drain after 10 day without use - a great feature when you forget to discharge the batteries yourself.

I'm hoping the Solo batteries do the same.

    • I can see how that could be a good thing, but it is not bad for a battery to keep a charge. That is what they are designed to do. Would I go 10 days without using it, probably not so I might not really notice this "discharging".
