Hotwire replied to Mario D. Molina Castellanos's discussion 3DR Iris+ Motor won't start when armed in IRIS
"Is it set to spin motors on arming? Have you checked the throttle received from the Rx? Does this also do this in Arco mode, Acro mode ignores many inputs and will arm and operate without checking for HDOP and other things.
Seem odd that loiter will…"

Hotwire replied to Mario D. Molina Castellanos's discussion 3DR Iris+ Motor won't start when armed in IRIS
"Most common reasons are hdop and compass disparity. Best way to find the answer is to connect to MP while arming. MP will flick up a brief message as to what the fault is. I suggest no props if using a USB cable.
Hope this is helpful."

My Rx is prone to creating some small variable output (noise) which is always going to be, for any receiver. Its enough to affect my video recordings and requires some effort to fix with video editing applications.CleanFlight has a simple threshold…

Hotwire replied to Hotwire's discussion GoPro controll for non-Solo users
"To be completely fair I would appreciate an explanation from either part. Was the information given only for Solo development?
Do GoPro get a royalty from Solo sales? If either is true I will happily retract my question and get on GoPros back."

Before Solo there were many hobbyists using APM and Pixhawk. It was our frustration that the Gopro was not something we could control, not even the trigger ( without risking a dead Gopro). So 3DR did a deal with Gopro and the Solo got the feature of…

Hotwire replied to Justin M's discussion I'm ready to drop 3DR, go with DJI in IRIS
"All this stuff is way over complicated. A GoPro on a gimbal and Helium balloon, two strings for orientation are control. Its got to be better that $1.5K and video full of jello.
Really, all this gear is overkill for selfies."

Hotwire replied to Justin M's discussion I'm ready to drop 3DR, go with DJI in IRIS
"Front left hand motor or ESC failed. Because it was so quick I would expect ESC. Could be a solder join on or connection to it.
Once you have a failure, fly low for a bit and try to observe the problem again. It wont go away magically. If it falls…"

Hotwire replied to Barrie Clarke's discussion Tea Gardens/Hawksnest. in Australia
"Hi Alvan
I have a few mates that fly. All at different levels but all keen.
Anna Bay is mostly clear of controlled air space and sounds like a good place to have a flying get-together. My eMail is hotwire.rctrix@gmail.com.
Cheers."

Hotwire replied to Joseph Bruno's discussion Big differences between parameters dumped from TLOGS in 3DR SOLO
"Either the data is rubbish or something has conflicted with the com port. Which ever, I would set the FC to defaults and start again.
If you have another PC, it would isolate the issue to the computer or the FC."

Hotwire replied to GeneralJumbo's discussion Proposed CASA rule changes response by 16 Jun 14 in Australia
"The Remote Pilot Certification costs $3800+ . I used RPAS Training, there are several other schools. There is another pilot qualification for over 7Kg UAVs."

Hotwire replied to GeneralJumbo's discussion Proposed CASA rule changes response by 16 Jun 14 in Australia
"1 Year after my last reply!
I have done the Remote Pilot Certification and I would have to say, CASA are heading in the right direction. Under 7KG is still a potentially large UAV. Big objects in the sky are a very big risk for manned aircraft and…"

Hotwire replied to Mike Muscroft's discussion Batteries, cells and volts! in 3DR SOLO
"Sorry if I sounded critical of the charge voltage. I understand that many battery chargers do have preset limits. However if you can reduce the charged voltage to 4.1V per cell you will help the life of the battery. This is a fact and also my…"

Hotwire replied to Mike Muscroft's discussion Batteries, cells and volts! in 3DR SOLO
"Hi Mike
I don't have a SOLO but I use a lot of 3DR gear.
16.xV LiPo is a 4 cell battery. 16.57V is over charged.
Checkout this blog article. HERE
I charge my batteries to only 4.1V per cell. This improves the battery life by more than double and…"

Hotwire replied to Erik Graham's discussion Batteries "smart" enough to discharge after inactivity? in 3DR SOLO
"This also my experience, that LiPOs loose charge over time. The catch is the higher you charge the faster they loose charge/voltage. I only charge to 4.1V per cell and the charge reduction is much less. It is also my observation that this loss of…"

"Walkera make an awesome gimble that's really cheap. Does Solo come with a GoPro interface?
As for PixHawk, learn to backup the parameters before you alter anything."
