Matthew Kerle replied to Alain's discussion Possibility of using EzUHF LRS for telemetry and RC control?
"yeah, it's a real shame that you can't get stereo audio on the lower freq a/v transmitters to run telemetry. I'm looking at moving to 900mhz a/v (mono audio), 433mhz RC, and with APM 2.6 and the 3dr radios sufficiently off my RC freq, like 470 or…"

"few guidlines to long flighttimes:

super light frame, the bare minimum you can get away with
the lowest KV motors you can afford
the biggest props you can fit on the motors

Even then, the record is…"

Matthew Kerle replied to Glen Leeon's discussion Telemetry in Australia in Australia
"keep in mind your phone has quite a few standards to choose from with different frequencies and data rates,eg these are for the LG Nexus outside USA:

GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

"My wife gets annoyed every time a new package arrives, I'm starting to quietly put them aside and put them away in bits so she doesn't notice ;-)

Matthew Kerle replied to Glen Leeon's discussion Telemetry in Australia in Australia
"Cool. I haven't looked a lot into antennas at 433 and 915 as I won't be able to use them for a while. Everything is so big at those low frequencies!"

Matthew Kerle replied to Glen Leeon's discussion Telemetry in Australia in Australia
"yeah, I've been looking into it, there's a book you purchase and study, then your local hobby group invigilates the exam and you get your amateur licence and your very own callsign! then you can go on and do intermediate and advanced, Advanced can…"

Matthew Kerle replied to Glen Leeon's discussion Telemetry in Australia in Australia
"Just as a wild guess, I'd say its because the transceiver towers that your phone talks to push out hundreds of watts, and they have massive high gain patch antennas on full 360 degree coverage. If you could mount that transmitter on your UAV and…"

Matthew Kerle replied to Glen Leeon's discussion Telemetry in Australia in Australia
"Depends, do you have an amateur radio licence? If not then technically neither. If you do then I think you can use 433mhz, but you might need the intermediate or advanced licence. Someone more knowledgeable than I could probably say for sure..."
