Daniel McKinnon posted a blog post
I recently wrote a little post designed to help those coming from a drone background pass the Fundamentals of Surveying exam, which I believe is an essential step to actually getting value out of drone data. Let me know what you think.…

I banged my head against a while for a while learning to share drone data in Mapbox and, now that I've got everything figured out, think it is a lot of fun and I thought I would share lessons learned on DIYD. Unfortunately, running JavaScript from…

Daniel McKinnon commented on Daniel McKinnon's blog post Navigating the byzantine FAA Part 107 exam registration process
"@Gary: No problem. It looks like Sony did discontinue the QX1, but I wouldn't be surprised if they replaced it with something better. Check out this miniaturized version of the A7S, for example. I have one in the office and it is rock solid. I will…"

Daniel McKinnon commented on Daniel McKinnon's blog post Navigating the byzantine FAA Part 107 exam registration process
"@Tom: I can assure you that this is worse than the EIT process, having completed them both. Not that that is an excuse for either the FAA or NCEES. In this day and age it does not need to be difficult to administer a computerized exam. Thanks for…"

Daniel McKinnon posted a blog post
I had so much fun playing around with DroneKit Python over the last month or so, that I thought I would try my hand at DroneKit Android. Specifically, I was interested in building a customized version of Tower. As always, this blog post is cross…

Daniel McKinnon commented on Daniel McKinnon's blog post Idiot's Guide to DroneKit-Python: A Journey to WHOZ CHILLIN
"@Stephen, I suggest giving this another try. I don't believe any new features are going into DroneKit, once camera and gimbal control are built as real functions. Everything should be pretty smooth at this point.

@Randy, I can do that. You guys…"

"@David, thanks for the catch. For those of you who need a slightly more detailed explanation, the IP addresses, protocols, and ports should match between MAVProxy and the GCS. Tower tcp:127.0.0.1:14550 would connect straight to SITL, while tower…"

As always, this post is mirrored on my personal blog with a little nicer formatting at ddmckinnon.com. Ever since I moved to Berkeley and started at 3DR, I dreamed of developing an app that ran on-board Solo that would let me see who was chillin’ on…

"@Benoit: I haven't investigated any of these. I just saw a few random posts. Live view over WiFi is pretty good, but the issue I ran into was related to the RasPi connecting on boot. It was succeeded around 20% of the time for no reason I could…"

Daniel McKinnon replied to Thorsten's discussion Solo specs and ecalc in 3DR SOLO
"Good question. I don't, but I should. If I were forced to spit out some numbers, I would say turtle is 2.5 m/s and rabbit is 15 m/s.
To do these experiments yourself, you can change WP_NAV_SPEED and/or LOIT_SPEED in Tower and see how that affects…"
