I'm leading a project to develop a completely open source system for deploying artificial intelligence and computer vision on a drone, and I thought Terrain/Surface Mapping might be interested. The goal is to support research groups monitoring things like coastline erosion, wild fires, disaster response to floods, etc. Let me know what you think?

One area that we focused a lot on was really good temporal synchronization between our inertial measurement unit and the imagery stream as this allows for exploiting approaches such as visio-interial SLAM. The research groups that investigate drone SLAM generally have to make custom/complicated Arduino-based synchronization hardware. So, our hope is that this platform could lower the barrier to entry for others to start exploiting drone-based SLAM in their projects.
