For post-processing LiDAR flights, it is required that I start and end each flight with 3 figure eight flight patterns. Is it possible for me to create a custom shape to enable doing this easily each time I plan a flight, such as the circle that is available?

Also, I'm not clear how to copy / paste waypoints within a flight plan, which could help to at least copy a figure eight (if I'm trying to fly as close to the same one as possible each time).

Thanks!

  • Excellent, thank you! I also recommend UgCS. Thanks for sharing the tip and I will try this out. I'm curious how adaptive turning works with this approach and if it will produce nice smooth figure eight patterns, hope so!

Hi, just returned from Intergeo expo in Berlin. Here we had lot of conversations with LIDAR manufacturers and UgCS + LIDAR users. We found that lot of them use "perimiter" to warm up the system.
Also perimeter allows to create eight-like patter:

It was great to get know that most of LIDAR manufacturers recommend UgCS for their customers as most appropriate GS for such missions.

  • Excellent samples, thank you!

  • Thank you! Please find a sample mission attached. Having the ability vary the size (radius of each loop), speed, altitude, rotation direction, and number of laps (similar to the circle tool), would be ideal. Please let me know any additional information I can provide.

  • .. and this

    3. Auto calculate most efficient (longest continuous flight lines with least flight time) azimuth for area-scan lines (I could see the code calculating internally an area-scan flight plan for each degree (or 5) of azimuth and then using the one that best fits the criteria above). Thanks!

  • I have registered this as feature requests

    A few other suggestions:

    1. A way to copy / paste and drag and drop and move around (in the sequence) mission components (like a vertical timeline of mission components), would make mission development much easier than the current insert before button.

    2. A button (or check box) that automatically adds a take-off and landing at exact same location using the same parameters (right now I visually try to get them to align, but never perfect and seems an unnecessary step).

    Thanks!

    2. I would also like to be able to be able to replay the telemetry with a mission overlayed.

    Planned in next versions.

  • Hi, could you send samples of your routes with "eight" pattern to ugcs(at)ugcs.com?

Using your samples we will discuss requirements in details.

Couple of years ago we implemented such pattern for one of our custom version (for aerial targets :), it's seems guys that you need something similar..
