modem vs dongle

I have been trying to achieve this for some time with no success. I have to take long breaks due to work.

First I started out with a DroneCell / APM and even with the help of Soren Kula didn't achieve success before I had to shelve it for work.

Then I went down the R Pi / 3g Dongle. With the help Soren again and Brent Christian Egeland's website I managed to get the Sakis working but I found that my 3G dongle was too fragile.

Also I am using a rover so I need to antenna 1000mm off the ground to stay connected in low areas.

So I opted for the LS300 modem 3G HSPA+ with fallback to quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, now they have a 4G LTE model which I would have bought if I had known.

I have APM UART connected to the  Serial port of the LS300 via a level shifter directly. But I can't get it working on UDP.

I have an R Pi that I was going to use to run the video side.

My question: Can this set up as it is work?

Or should I connect the APM to the R Pi and just use the ethernet port to connect the R Pi to the Router.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Hardware I have:

 - APM 2.5 & 2.6 (I'll order a PX4) but for now I can't justify it.

 - R Pi

 - LS300 Mobile Router 3G HSPA+ with fallback to quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE

What is the best configuration?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

RS

  • I sincerely don't know how to help you. LS300 should have DMZ or Port Forwarding; this is essential. The RPi is too fragile; I do strongly suggest oDroid XU3 + LUBUNTU; your LS300 should be immediatly recognised (no Sakis 3G). It's not a grat idea to have a level shifter (it's one more component); the best is to plug Odroid XU3 directly to Pixhawk's USB/Telemetry port (5V <-> 5V).  Simpler is better, sometimes also more expensive (but you probably save time and headaches). At your service, S.
