Could you guys post some pictures of your antenna setups? I have trouble getting a GPS fix with the RFD modems on (I uses 868 european models). Here's my setup:- Reach DGPS base station, RFD868 on the serial port, powered through the reach- Reach…

"I wanted the airspeed sensor to be protected from nose and bush landings. The tube is quite fragile. That's why I put it under the wing.

I haven't tested the batteries to their full limit yet. I'm planning to put the plane in RTL and get some…"

"I'm flying 2x10000 mah 3s.
Flies just fine.
Why do you think it's not the best plane?"

"Yes, the pod is my own design and build. I tried 3D printing, but I found lasercut multiplex to be much lighter. It's 3mm, but I think you can easily go down to 1,5mm for the pod, halving the weight. I also designed that wing to hold the airspeed…"

Finally I've got all systems working. The combination of the telemetry modem and GPS module gave me a lot of headaches. The solution proved to be a separate UBEC for the modem and moving that UBEC as far away from the other electronics as…

Random fact:I just read that Nikola Tesla built an RC boat as early as 1898. Nice, huh? He envisioned drones back then. He was forced to use RC, as he was unable to build an…

I am converting a Skywalker X8 into a VTOL quadplane. For ease of assembly I would like to integrate a connector in the orange parts that connect the wings. What connectors do you suggest? It needs to connect two thick power leads (+ and -) for the…

"OK I solved it! Thanks everyone - and especially Joe - for your suggestions. Powering the modem via a separate UBEC - like Joe suggested - worked like magic. No balun needed, no ferrite core.
The modem came with a little 4 wire cable that became a…"

"Thanks! Great tips. And nice video. Nice airstrip you have there too.
It seems I have plenty of elevator authority on the ranger. With the wings above the plane theoretically the flaps should pitch the plane up. In my logs I can see the autopilot…"

"Can you add a picture of your hb antenna? Or a link to the tutorial on how to make it? And a parts list?
I was thinking of DIY 4 elements yagi antenna for the GCS. Would that work?
Did you ever fly beyond 20 km?

Thanks,
Anton."

Anton Vanhoucke replied to Anton Vanhoucke's discussion 433 Mhz dipole vs. GPS: total decimation
"The more I read about impedance matching the more I'm certain that that is the problem. The new antenna has a coax cable longer than 1/8 wavelength. And that is a problem:
"A cable becomes a transmission line when it has a length greater than λ/8 at…"

"Hi Alasdair,
This is one of the more insightful answers!
So the feeder of my modem is matched for a lamda/4 monopole antenna and it goes haywire on a lambda/4 dipole? I found no 433 antennas on the site you mentioned. This article is about…"

I was playing around with autolanding. With more luck than wisdom I found pretty neat landing parameters after 5 consecutive landings. A little overshoot: 7m. The plane should have landed at my feet) What I did was increase flaps in steps of 10% and…

"- Is a notch filter the same as a balun? It looks similar.
- Would a 15nF condensator over the modem power lines help? I still hope to avoid a separate battery for the modem...
- I will try a separate BEC, maybe that helps too.

I will update this…"
