"No it was the 3.3v regulator that was fried. I replaced it for free by ordering a sample from TI and now works fine

"For info and anybody else with this problem. Turned out to be the 3.3v regulator that was fried so the MPU6000 and EEPROM were not being powered.
Fixed with some fine soldering and a replacement 3.3v regulator IC.
