About Me:

Im 24 and in northern Michigans never ending land of snow. Im new to RC anything, but am a pilot and have been around aircraft my entire life. When it comes to building planes, Ive built one kit plane that is flying now and almost finished with the second, so Ive got a great grasp of actual planes and their construction. Trying to get into the RC world is turning out to be a bit of a learning curve for me. (so be patient with me!)

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

A buddy and I have been slowly growing more and more interested in RC planes, and hes a EE major at Michigan Tech, so hes got all sorts of ideas for making drones as well as implementing new one off kinda of hardware and software for them. Weve started on a blue core foamy model that resembles a Cessna 337 (boxy body, high wing, twin boom tails, but only one pusher prop). Its pretty small ( will have about a 4 foot wingspan when complete) and simple, but I have spent quite a bit of time sanding and shaping the wing and fuselage. Right now Im trying to grasp what all these numbers on motors(electric) and props mean. Neither of us really have anybody to learn from right now, as the college RC club is pretty much non-existent and the Aero team is busy doing wind tunnel stuff at any given moment. A newer update on this later.

""a big rubber band" is basically what we used on our rockets. it did just that. took up the shock. the slider also helps. and on my reserve chute, where it has to open in a hurry, i have a spring loaded deployment bag. its always under tension. when…"

Chris Woodry replied to hamadivo's discussion 35cc Engine vibration
"not sure how the small engines like this are done but some fo the larger aircraft that i fly have flywheel weights on them to help counteract the vibrations and smooth things out a bit. might be something worth looking into"

"yep thats exactly what im talking about. the hole doesnt need to be that big. generally speaking the faster the object is falling the hole will need to be a little bit bigger... but start small and trim to your needs. rectangular will be just fine…"

Chris Woodry replied to Ersin Acar's discussion DroneChute
"well since folks are doing a bit of r&d on a chute.. ever notice on a parabolic (round) parachute they typically have a hole up top? this is to allow a small bit of air to spill through. otherwise you have air trying to spill out of the sides and…"
