About Me:

Cinn Song with SOLARTODO LIMITED. We make solar ground-sensor networks for farms and like comparing notes with people who build their own mapping drones.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

Drone or ground sensor – which should a farm buy first? Our 2026 analysis says it depends on the decision cycle. Drones cover 100–400 ha a day and map canopy differences at 5–10 cm/pixel with multispectral cameras. Ground networks give 24/7 readings every 10 minutes and catch frost or irrigation events that shift within 1–3 hours. On blocks of 30–50 ha or more, combining both often improves irrigation timing by 10–30%. NDVI maps are periodic snapshots, while in-soil probes measure root-zone moisture directly. SOLARTODO LIMITED started in 2014 and manufactures in Gaoyou (Jiangsu province); North American contacts go through its Austin office. Interested in open-source autopilot setups for multispectral survey work. Analysis: https://solartodo.com/knowledge/agricultural-drone-vs-ground-sensor-cost-analysis-2026-coverage-data-quality
