Clay Cranor replied to Darius Jack's discussion Who is legally accountable in case of drone crash reported to FAA ? in ArduCopter User Group
"The FAA is unambiguous.  Drones are aircraft and fall under title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 (and others) for operational regulation:
§91.3   Responsibility and authority of the pilot in command.
(a) The pilot in command of an aircraft…"

Clay Cranor replied to john's discussion Is it possible to add a 5 watt RF amplifier to a 3DR/Hope radio module?
"I would think that designing a better antenna would be more cost effective way to increase range...  Its no secret that the rubber duckie antennas on both your HT on 440Mhz and the 3DR radios are quite poor and absorb most of the signal they…"

"from the press release on the FAA.gov website:

Owners using the model aircraft for hobby or recreation will only have to register once and may use the same identification number for all of their model UAS. The registration is valid for three years.…"

"@Clay said, "Utter nonsense".   Really?"

I stand by my statement.  I did not say that aviation isn't regulated, only that it is not "elitist".  Flying General aviation need not be any more expensive than many other popular pastimes.  I…"

"General aviation has been, since the beginning, the realm of the elite, and they control the air."

this is utter nonsense.  general aviation was created by a couple of bicycle mechanics.  You can…"

"Jim,

Thanks!  I would appreciate that.  With most other materials I use either the hair spray on glass or the tape works well... but not that 618 nylon.

Clay Cranor replied to Clay Cranor's discussion 3d printed props in IRIS
"Yeah, I have thought of that, but it seems there ought to be a design/material/method to make it reliable.  A lot of the strength depends on orientation of the layers to the primary stress axis, and the material used."
