About

About Me:

A small colorado non-profit, founded on the idea that a small group of talented, dedicated people are capable of significant contributions to the current state of scientific knowledge through creativity and efficiency. We are here because we want to be; we study what we love.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

While we're dedicated to high-altitude balooning, there are a number of technologies that are of interest to the UAV world (tracking and recovery, long-range, high-speed telemetry and control, etc).

EDGE Research Lab commented on Lester Haines's blog post Thanks to Edge Research Lab for the HackHD
"@Nuno, the hot mirror filter is attached to the back of the lens (not over the sensor), so achieving NIR/NDVI is very doable.  In fact, we commissioned a custom lens with an IR pass filter (visible block - looks like a mirror) and it works great for…"

EDGE Research Lab commented on EDGE Research Lab's blog post 9xTend vs RFD900 Radio High-altitude Test
"All good info, thanks!  The GPS units send 4 NMEA sentences once every second (GGA, GSV, GLL, and RMC), so they're pushing an average rate of about 1.6kbits/sec.  Not a lot, I know, but the point of this test was (as close as possible to) identical…"

EDGE Research Lab commented on EDGE Research Lab's blog post 9xTend vs RFD900 Radio High-altitude Test
"@Andrew: for this first flight, we kept it simple - just a GPS transponder, as you put it - so no noise data collected during the flight.  However, based on this performance, we will be flying and characterizing the RFD900 further.
Here's a picture…"

EDGE Research Lab commented on EDGE Research Lab's blog post ArduSat Balloon Launch (joined by Sparkfun!)
"Because we landed on private property, we needed to get permission to enter the field to recover the payload.  This was slightly more difficult than usual, given that the farmhouse where we had to go to get permission was over 5 miles from the…"

This isn't directly applicable to autopilots, but there was some interest from this community in the ArduSat effort, so here goes... On October 27th, the EDGE Research Laboratory team launched and successfully recovered the ArduSat prototype…
