L1/L2 GNSS RTK Kit for Drone DIY

Standard radio versions are 915 MHz (US) and 433 MHz (Europe). The two radio transmitters in an RTK system need to be able to pass RTCM data from the base station to the rover receiver. The bundle includes a basic low-power radio link that runs quickly and is good for short baseline applications.

High-end radio version is with Tersus radio station RS05R, which is a rover radio solution for wireless application. It provides reliable data communication for mission-critical applications where a combination of stability, supreme performance and long range are required. The RS05R is designed for digital radio communication between 410 and 470 MHz in either 12.5 or 25 KHz channels, which can be widely used in GNSS RTK surveying and precise positioning system.

We are glad to release the latest firmware update to Precis OEM boards, the 1.15 version. Firmware V1.15 provides users with more robust RTK fix solution and accuracy. It provides other improved performance such as RTK solution of long baseline. Some known issues have been fixed as well. All update improves RTK positioning performance and high-precision navigation in more challenging environments.

GNSS-Aided Inertial Navigation System

The INS-T-306 is the advanced module that combines GPS L1/L2, GLONASS, BDS navigation and a high-performance strap-down system. It is capable of determining position, velocity and absolute orientation (heading, pitch and roll) for any device on which it is mounted. It aims at facilitating motionless and dynamic applications that need high accuracy, such as vessels, ships, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).

The INS-T-306 utilizes an advanced GNSS receiver, barometer, magnetometers, MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes to provide accurate position, velocity, heading, pitch and roll of the device under measure. Besides GPS L1/L2, GLONASS and BDS, the unit supports differential GPS and real-time kinematic (RTK). It is able to integrate into LiDAR (Velodyne, RIEGL and Faro brands). The on-board sensor fusion filter, navigation and guidance algorithms, and calibration software inside all make INS-T-306 a commercially exportable GNSS-aided inertial navigation system.

Zero-baseline test of GNSS receivers

A zero-baseline test of 4 GNSS receivers (Precis-BX305 incl.) was conducted by Daniel Tampubolon from Institute Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia. He used zero-baseline test in order to obtain noise of receiver by single-differencing the raw. Then he found out the characteristic of noise for each receiver by analyzing its spectrum.

Test/Experiment Setup: He connected 4 GNSS receivers, including two Precis-BX305 boards (indicating as TerA & TerB in all charts) to one antenna with a one-to-four RF splitter. Then he formed four double different zero baselines between every two receivers and analyzed the quality of the double different observations. The CORS is an appealing way to do RTK due to its convenience and large coverage area. While Precis-BX305 currently does not support build-in NTRIP client feature, there is an alternative way to connect CORS network by employing external Bluetooth module and a cellphone. Check it out.

Tersus Rinex Converter V1.0 is now ready for release. RINEX is short for Receiver Independent Exchange Format, which is well used for post data process. This tool can help users convert their binary observation data into RINEX 3.2 format.

All Precis RTK boards (Precis-BX303, Precis-BX305 and Precis-BX316) support raw observation data logging. Precis-BX303 has an onboard SD card slot and the Precis-BX305 and Precis-BX316 support external data logger. The logged binary observation data can be converted into Rinex 3.2 with Tersus Rinex Converter.
