A diagonal position means that the sensor's views of the sky and ground are not blocked by the powerpod or tail. It allows the readings to be more accurate.
Just confirming what Chris A. said... I'm working on it, and is very good! But is recommended to use Z sensor, unless you are planning to use only stabilization.

The 900mhz xbee must be very good, have you made some range test?
I will use the xbee pro 2.4ghz to begun whit and test some different antennas to make it go longer then 1.6km.
