I've posted wanting to go as far a twin rotor in "My Projects". No pulse on that thread yet... This was supposed to be a Tri-rotor, but I do not have everything needed on hand so I drew the quad. The intent is to be able to rotate the motors at some point. Then move into only two rotors, and being able to rotate the motors as well as articulate fore and aft to shift the balance/thrust relationship.
After this working out rotating the 90° you mentioned and be able to transition to and from forward flight.
You are right in that I am trying to use as many off the shelf parts as possible. RC cars are tough, parts are cheap, and readily available. Just went to the store today and spent $17 on the arms needed for this design(8).
Looks like this will be step one, as I can do 100%. The more advanced steps I will need help with, I cannot do much in the way of programming yet.
I've had a cool idea for a morphing quadcopter/ rc car that this design looks perfect for. Just give those motor mounts the ability to tilt via a servo 90 degrees, add a cowl with a thin layer of rubber and the ability to rotate sedately from the blades and you have a flying rc car. Anyway cool design. Looks like half the parts are from rc cars.
