Hello! Today I want to tell You about the company's product FPV3DCam (fpv3dcam.com), a little and beautiful, you can say first of its kind - 3D video camera for fpv.

And thus, meet - The BlackBird is the smallest and cool 3D video camera real time.

Let's begin the discussion with the appearance of The BlackBird. The BlackBird is the representative of a class without hull cameras and looks like a small box the size 34 x 34 mm, consisting of two video modules, connected by a two reliable 7 pin connectors. Such design allows to separate modules and change the length of stereo connecting them with connecting cable, as well as detachable design allows setting of convergence.

On the front of The BlackBird are two lens 3.6mm ( maybe 2.5 mm, depending on set of delivery, lenses standard M12), led - indicator, holders of lenses, which are hidden ultra compact high quality video sensors OmniVision OV7950 on the sensor 1/4" CMOS. The size of the array of pixels 656 x 492, image quality 470 TVL.

Rear 3D camera is a board to the locations of electronic components - all parts are soldered to the Board very efficiently and accurately. Also here is an interface connector to connect The BlackBird to the video transmitter (video glasses, monitor, etc) and voltage. By the way, the range of supply voltage camera from 5 to 12 volts, allowing you to use LiPo batteries 2S or 3S.

The outgoing video signal from the camera is transmitted in the format NTSC 525/60, 3D - Field Sequential 3D, which allows to use standard video transmitter in FPV system. And get in the video glasses quality Video in 3D, which allows us to more accurately navigate in space. The person using The BlackBird in FPV, feelings when managing rc model become more real, he feels the speed, volume, perform any complex maneuvers, becomes an easy game... you Can tell people use The BlackBird in FPV begins to look at this world with two eyes that originally given to him by nature.

  • Erik, You can obtain using standard stereo base", " 3D effect is quite good, and the connected camera. We have no time for that, we would be very grateful to anyone who can do this mount, and he could sell it together with us.

  • thank you Sharky

    very well said

  • Egor it would be handy if you offer a mount with a range of typical eye distances and a way to adjust the focal point.

  • actually emr labs had one out before Kritzelkratzel had his, i know i was flying with it, therew is a picture of it to the left as my avitar, so no not the first but is is still the smallest, and lightest, fitting a standard board cam footprint, or extend out to 2000mm,and adjust convergence, and the 5v - 12v thing is nice also,  it is also NTSC not pal. and now Melih needs to stop trolling, sorry any camera circut that uses radio shack parts is not a good example of why it can't be done.

you have not seen this camera, you have not used this camera, and i will say this, then i plan to ignore you, and answer actual questions, if it is only 210 per eye, than it is the sharpest 210 i have ever seen. just because you have not seen something doesn't mean it isn't real. funny that all the people out there doing 3d you are the only one saying this cannot work, your first post claimed it was a bad idea to try because of the requirements of 3d ( i paraphrase ) this is a foolish attitude to have, if you want to try the camera and then tell me its shortcomings that is fine, but don't just proclaim "it cannot be done" and tell me to ignore the proof of my own experience.BTW here is the link to the flat earth society i am sure you will get along great, http://theflatearthsociety.org/cms/

  • Hi,

    About TVL:

The common used "TVL" means Horizontal TV lines or HTVL. The 470TVL analog camera means resolution of 470 pixels per line. It measured by resolution charts, for example EIA1956.

    About TV resolution: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_lines

The maximum available resolution of NTSC picture is 720 TVL (because it is 720 horizontal by 576 vertical pixels).

The BlackBird has 470 HTVL (really measured by CCTV chart).

Video goggles receive interlaced NTSC picture and seperates it on two displays. Horizontal resolution of each picture is 470 TVL, and vertical resolution is half of NTSC (it is 288).

The total horizontal resolution will be 940TVL.

The horizontal resolution will be lower when side-by-side 3d picture is generated by the camera.

For 470 TVL 3d camera it will be 470 TVL for both eyes (or 235 TVL per eye).

    About analog 3d video:

it does not matter what 3d format is used. We have a limited analog video bandwidth. For NTSC it's 30 full frames per second and 720x576 resolution. For 3d picture we must reduce a twince one of parameters. It's horizontal resolution, vertical resolution or frame rate. No magic, it's physics.
Or we must to use a non-standard transmitter (with higher bandwidth) or two transmitters.

    About parallel line of sights:

All fixed 3d cameras has a problem with fixed line of sights convergention. You can't see far and near simultaneously. But you can see 3d volume at fixed distance at convergention point +/- ~10 meters.

For copters it is at 5-10m, for planes it is 20-40m.

    About "who is the first?":

The first message about the Blackbird is dated 20.06.2011, here:

    http://rc-aviation.ru/forum/topic?id=2434 (it is on russian)

Maybe it is not the first 3d camera, but before KritzelKratzel's NerdCam.

  • Yes, 3D camera we are not the first who made a 3D camera... But we are the first who made a 3D camera really for FPV - our camera is not big size you can install it anywhere, it is necessary for small models. If You have a large model, You can disconnect the camera modules and edit stereo base. Again, all other cameras are powered from 5 Volts, but the video transmitters want 12 Volts! Now The BlackBird can operate from 5 Volts and 12 Volts... And then tell me one 3D FPV camera which has the ability to configure convergence??? No, it is only on The BlackBird!

  • Hi, I just wanted to state that "you can say first of its kind - 3D video camera for fpv" is actually not the first of this kind. KritzelKratzel had a first working design - I think it was nearly 2 years ago but failed the tough EMI test. He spent nearly a year of redesigning the pcb, testing etc to get stellar low electromagnetic interference and passed the EMI test with ease. Since I am not planning any 3D display system I can not comment on any of these products but having a (proven/certified) design that is heavily designed to have an low to none influence on the nearby electronics is not the worst thing to have in a copter - to say at least. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1802511 . Sorry for my English.

  • Well, I'm not sure what is the 960TVL. Because PAL only carries only 625 TVL and NTSC is only 525TVL maximum. This values are total of ODD and EVEN frames. And the every frame will be half of this values.

Making 3D CMOS camera is very simple and you don't need big electronic experience for it. Because of Field Sequential architecture. Just you should connect the VS and FSIN pıns of both camera and a video switch can handle the switching between the cameras and Odd and Even frames. You can see the video switch chip and controller on the back of your Blackbird or other 3D fpv cameras.

And believe me, a video switch cant analyze the video and collect all frames in a matrix and generate a 960TVL video signal. You need a FPGA,fast ADC and RAM for doing this and cost is higher than 100$ :)

If you using 420TVL(or 470TVL) camera, your every frame will be half of this value(210TVL) this is why your field sequential video will be 210TVL for each eye. I'm not against you, no offence please, this is science, and math and standards saying this, not me. I'm open to change my mind.

You can say, It's funny or It's great experience, I don't have any word against this. But 960TVL or 3D with non parallel cameras. Need proof, because cinema industry can pay millions for this great invents :D

Here is the some info about PAL/NTSC
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL#PAL_vs._NTSC

And this helps to understanding the simple circuit design for Field Sequential 3D
    http://webpages.csus.edu/~heinega/Two_Camera_Field_Sequential_3D_Ci...

  • In BlackBird picture is formed with the help of two sensors have a resolution of 420 TVl, Yes we lose horizontal resolution, but the vertical resolution (it is a single sensor resolution, as we alternate line) remains the same (i.e. two times higher than from one camera) is the first. The second is today 3D FPV camera BlackBird is the best 3D FPV camera in the world, in many of the parameter is the weight, the supply voltage, the ability to change the stereo base, size etc. Buy BlackBird, and if You do not like it I will return the money.
