You are correct - Aerosonde was the first to cross. Maynard was the first 'amateur' plane to cross as the plane weight was less than 11 pounds. I put amateur in quotes because we are such a group pf specialists, that its hard to see the line between Pro and Am.
This story definitely missed the mainstream media. That was the bottom of dot com crash #1 & everyone wanted to read business stories instead of technology stories.
A followup comment to an earlier point I made months ago...this was not the first autonomous model aircraft to cross the Atlantic..That was the Aerosonde in 1998.
