The evolution of the code, the improvements made by the development team and the passion that we are putting in all this public project is bearing fruits that much hoped for.
ArduCopter is reaching commercial products, offers even more potential at an affordable cost.
Roberto Navoni and Emile Castelnuovo by "Virtualrobotix Italia" was the pionieer of ARM platform for ArduCopter code with the powerfull “VR Brain” (in this video), the new “PX4” now ranks at the same level but delayed on the roadmap, although we are almost ready for the first official stable release, i will start my hard test this week.
This blog post is dedicated to people, like me, using heart and mind for this passion, and this video to Leonard for making Acro mode much better!
Just to say thanks to whole “ArduCopter Dev Team”, DIY Drone community, “3DRobotics”, “Virtualrobotix Italia” and all those who like me are following this project with the right spirit, that of fun and sharing experience… enjoy with ArduCopter!

Bests... Marco

  • Damn right....I cant imagine how much we are stretching this little AVR chip to the limits of its operational capabilities..Its amazing how much effort has gone into this project ..I am really proud to be a part of this community.. I will be looking forward to the APM 3 with a completely integrated ARM processor for precise computational operations....lets hope we can compete with the DJI, ZeroUAV flight quality in a year's time from now...

Thanks AKcopter, VR Brain and PX4 use the same code of APM but with their 168 MHz are much faster, is not only a floating point hw acceleration, the result is a better correction and reaction on hard maneuvers and stabilization.
APM is also still capable of such performance, unfortunately suffers from a bit of weighting at the code level on the many features it has, its 16 MHz are stretched to the limit imho.

  • Awesome Work Marco....I just wanted to ask if such flight quality and precision navigation can be expected out of the original APM 2.5 with the 8-bit brain..or is this only possible with floating point processing on the ARM ...VRbrain ..thanks in advance....Great video again.. your work keeps guys like me working towards tuning their platform to perfection like yours...

    @Patrice: is not a problem... :P
@John: yes, is a tiny shrink tube!

  • Great idea with the shrink tubing on the gps!

  • Marco,

To fully test the ACCRO mode you should try LOOPING and BAREL. :)

  • I think it is just shrink tube.

I used it also on my GPS and have no issue at all. Plastic is transparent to GPS signal.

If you are really concerned you could just cut the shrinking tube a few millimiters inside the border of the antenna, so that only the ceramic top is not covered from the tube.

  • Awesome piloting skills and great video!! What do you have your GPS covered with and does it affect the lock?
  • Just can't think of better words to describe these two and a half years following and trying to contribute to this great project.

  • nice :) Long live AC!
