Ardupilot Ground Station 2.6.4 A&B New Look

Hi All,Been hanging around here for quite a while now and gleaning as much information as i can, maybe its time to give something back. One of the biggest problems we found was that when in the field, its hard to get all the information where you need it, re-sizing all the windows, if you touch the pad, you can lose the window you want, always the GS, hard to find the pointer to bring it back, when you have one eye on the aircraft one eye on this...So this is my attempt..I hope its usefull to you. Please give feedback as to you thoughts and any improvements.GROUND STATION 2.6.4 UPDATE::1024x768 GCS for smaller LaptopsTrue speed indicator updated for greater accuracyYou can set True speed to MPH/KMH (defaults to KMH) & Altitude to Meters/feet (default Meters)Tme Left estimator, a better accuracy with a new gauge. (you need to set Amps FT to what your aircraft draw flat out)Amps / Watts added (again needs to be set up bottom left with your cell count and Mah)Complete colour re-design for ease of view outside, on a sunned out dull laptop.THINGS TO DO:Fix the irritation, when you click the FIND UAV button so that it auto pops to the position, at the mo you have to double click the position in GE then the GS rotates to where it needs to be. STILL NOT FIXEDFlight trackin. STILL NOT FIXEDSorting some innacuracies with Time estimator. BETTERAP Mode being added on 265Enjoy.Try MY Version GE and DONT update it!!!!! this might solve the GE window fro a couple of you guys....I know that GE changes the Callin API about as often as they change underware........so has been a problem fro all integrators...however as i said before in NOT a programmer, 30 years as an aerodynamcist aircraft designer, and 4 years as a military field asset, so please forgive my crude programming. Thanks to the 'Crashing Dutchman' for updating the look and feel.GCS264a Source.zipGCS264a.zip 1024/768 resolutionGCS264b not uploaded yetGoogleEarthWin.exeLV 8.5 or 8.5.1 works available by google search or just in the last line of top of this page : Runtime or8.5 is Here (thanks Morli)Doc.

  • Mike,
My hardware ArduStation has that feature now. It sure is nice to glance at the display to confirm the mode.

If you like I will post code here. But remember it is for the hardware ArduStation.

  • Christopher......Go for it!.....Im with you and chris on the logging......

Good to see some young fresh minds applied to this project....im sure you chaps will bring another element to the way it functions..

Earl...sorry friend.....Simply not had time yet...

Things that stop Mike having fun....

1.been bogged down with a years accounts for 2 of my companies.
    2. blowing a gale and raining again,......
    3. did i mention the poxy accounts.....LOL...
I will get to it though,,,think i have another day today of it....but can get back to ardu project tomorrow...

I was thinking that we need to know what state the ardu is in, not just the switch pos, thanks for teh heads up on the variable used...now we can use it!...

2.6.4 i was hoping to have done by today, but not a chance....will get that employed though...
  • Chris
did you get a chance to try my ArduStation software ?

    Christopher,

That sounds great. KML (and other streams) dataloging have long been our to-do list, but delighted to have someone else take the ball and run with it.
  • Hey everyone, I'm new to the diydrones site but I'm heavily involved with the student UAS and IMAV teams at Embry-Riddle. We are more then likely going to use an Ardupilot for IMAV so me and one of my friends, we're two of the vehicle programmers, decided to try our hand at this whole GCS thing. We decided to start with your 2.6.3 code as a base and build off of it.

One thing that we plan on implementing:
Aircraft telemetry logging on the GS side w/ the ability to replay flights (in Google Earth maybe?)
  • Doc, thank you very much for the great advice.

Now, I'm wondering to build small drone (UAV) or quadcopter for my final project.

According to you advice, it's trully difficult for me to understand all the stuff you said. Specially this quotes :

"For me we topped out with the ZX80 when we had to build it and the 'Q' used to chase the 'P' around the screen, but i guess your a bit young to remember that..."

Maybe, for now i will focus in UAV or quadcopter airframe and how to program it to fly automously. It`s been a dream for me to build UAV like predator (I hope i can buil it one day...hahaha... my dream).

    regards,

    Okky
  • Oh... one feature I would like to see added is the state of the ArduPilot. The variable is STT and it is 0=Manual, 1=Waypoint, and 2=RTL(Return to Launch)
A box someware on the display would be nice.

  • Dr. Mike,
I remember the ZX80....I used it as a teaching aid when I taught High School and then later on when I taught a course or two at college.

I haven't had a chance to really learn Lab View tho I have a student and teacher edition. I have played with it a little.

Yes, the ArduPilot and both the ArduStation and GroundStation are good for learning about UAV's. I was writing my own UAV software using the Parallax Propeller chip when I discovered the ArduPilot. So I benched my AutoPilot8 project and joined the ArduPilot bandwagon to learn on. It has been fun and very enlightening to be on these forums ! I like we can discuss all the aspects of a UAV.

Keep up the good work yourself and I'm glad you have joined us!

  • Okky,
That is a very hard question to answer....

I use Labview, as it is boolean logic based, for me its fairly obvious....for some here, C is the way forwayrd, there are even some that still use VB6.....

For me we topped out with the ZX80 when we had to build it and the 'Q' used to chase the 'P' around the screen, but i guess your a bit young to remember that...

UAV airframe...start simple.....Easystar...summet like that....and teh Ardupilot...as its all open source....all great guys here...a wealth of knowledge....and everyone is willing help.....

To be fair..you need to understand the concepts of what UAV`s do, how they do what they do, and how to make the UAV think for its self....and how to relay this info to you in such a way that you can enterpret what its doing, and how to correct it....

if you can imagine the 1000`s of small calculations you brain makes when you play Xbox, or fly model aircraft....we take this for granted...and UAV has to make these or at least an assimalation of these and understand is situation....

Read Ardupilot....the guys here have made a very complex thing into decipherable chunks so that those who are not aerodynamicists, programmers, mathermatitions, physics majors, and chaotitions, can understand what we are trying to do, and how to achieve it.

    hope this helps.

    regards,

    Doc.
