Autonomy!

I just got a 3DR quad with APM2.5+ with GPS, and I was itching to try out the mission planner and its ability to program a mission with GPS. Here's a video of my first successful flight!

I'm a pretty experienced multirotor guy with an xproheli xp2 and a Cinestar 8, but these are flown the old fashioned way. :-)

  • @Graham,

Export your telemetry log in KML format, then load the KML file into Google Earth.

  • @jasonshort what should a good rate D be?
  • How did you do the google earth trace of your flight path
  • @Euan, I'm not really sure what's normal. Literally have about 5 or 6 flights on her so far. Haven't tried auto-land yet. A little spooked about that.

I did try programming a Waypoint for LOITER_TURNS and I almost learned the hard way that the default altitude for this instruction is 0. That nearly did me in! Fortunately, I was able to engage RTL and it came home uneventfully. Whoo!

  • It seems to wobble a bit on the WP change...is that normal? And yeah...crank up the WP speed :-)

Good flight though! Have you tried doing auto-land yet?

  • Developer

crank up the WP speed to about 12m/s You'll be glad you did. And it will fly better the faster you go!

Also, you may want to tune up the Rate_D term a bit to tighten it up.
