DroidPlanner 2.0 Beta Announced

3689569469?profile=original

The DroidPlanner team, led by Arthur Benemann, is pleased to announce the next version of its Android-based UI. DroidPlanner 2.0 offers a completely redesigned interface for controlling 3DR multirotors over Mavlink. The UI/UX has been rethought with an emphasis on simplified workflows, glanceable information, and reliability for the most common user actions.

DroidPlanner 2.0 centers around two screens: Telemetry and Planning. The telemetry screen allows users to quickly assess the state of the aircraft and perform quick actions, like loiter and land. The planning screen allows users to create missions on the fly, as well as edit them easily in the field. Other features, particularly those different from the original DroidPlanner, are listed below. The DroidPlanner 2.0 UI was specifically targeted at multirotors, but full plane support and all the features of the original DroidPlanner are coming soon!

Features:

  • Completely redesigned graphical user interface
  • Specifically designed for 3DR multirotors and Iris
  • New telemetry screen showing quick glanceable info: HUD, battery, RSSI, distance
  • Easy to use Home, Land, and Loiter buttons
  • New guided mode with changeable altitude
  • Quick mode switching
  • New planning screen for quick mission generation
  • Easy and powerful mission editing tools
  • Basic radio TX setup
  • Preflight checklist

Coming soon:

  • Survey tools in the mission planning screen
  • FollowMe 2.0 with advanced control options
  • New flight tuning screens
  • Improved radio configuration
Here are the instructions to download:
3) Download the app from the Play Store (this may take 30 mins or so to go live for you after you become a beta tester)

The app is still in a beta release, bugs can be reported on Github.

  • Arthur,

I am using it on a SVP 7in. And it is not showing the full screen. I seem that the altitude block runs off the screen. Also, it randomly restarts.

Other then that it is a great movement forward.

When will a windows tablet version of Mission planner coming?

  • Thanks, it makes perfect sense to perfect the interface before trying to make it compatible for smaller screens.

To make the tiles customisable can I suggest a single tap to bring up a list like it is currently and then if you tap on one of the items put that parameter in the tile.

If you would tap and hold the tile to then bring up a list of different parameter categories. Selecting a different category will update this tile. This will allow people to fully customise the layout without adding complex menu settings.

Thank you, I use it for both plane and multi. Can't wait!

@Hein du Plessis: Plane isn't fully supported on v2.0.0, but we should implement it very soon. We dropped the support for this first release so we could meet some deadlines, there is a lot of new features that are dependent on the drone type ( v1.2 is more generic, so it was easier to support both).

Fantastic looks really very professional! But did you drop plane support?
  • Developer

@Geoff: We are working on a phone layout, and the nexus 5 will certainly be supported. Keep a watch for updates.

  • The new design looks great! I did notice that it doesn't fit on a landscape Nexus 5 - any plans to make it adapt to a phone sized screen?

    @Hughes  Glad you like it!!

As Arthur said, we'll have a small portion of the screen that is customizable and won't interfere with the minimalism of the whole UI.  Moving forward, I think we'll continue to have the stock experience be as simple as possible, while allowing power users to add fields and data to the main screen to their hearts' content.  This presents some UI/UX challenges--layered interfaces are hard--but I think we can do it.  What would be great to hear is the most common pieces of data that people are missing so that we can be sure to support those in our customizable display panels in the future.

    @Hugues

We will implement the customizable telemetry fragment ( left rectangles), but about the top bar it's a little more complicated.

  • Hi Arthur,

I just played with this new version and I must say that this one is a winner !

Very good looking app, and so easy to create missions.

I'll fly with it as soon as possible.

As some other already asked, the "consumed amps" would be very nice.

Congrats for the great work you've done on this one !!
