Want to get behind something for a great KICK STARTER project that will make the world of drones leap forward on a whole new scale? Have a look at this. Been working on this, so to see how this plays out, is bloody exciting. I am in, are you?

Hi,
which is the relation between Vmw project and Pixy? In the video it looks that the software is very similar..
helistorm this project requires a device like a smartphone or a barebone single board computer thingy like beaglebone black... Both of these can do facial recognition without even having to relay data to the internet they can do it using their own processing power. This is just a cleaver scam for people with little to no technical skills and knowhow
You could even do some basic face tracking using one of these -> http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/254449872/pixy-cmucam5-a-fast-e...
What I would like is basic facial recognition. It doesn't even need to recognize individual people, but be generally aware of a person within camera range.
Yup it seems that it won't work without internet connection. It's a marketing strategy where they want you to pay a fee for using the service even though it could probably run offline even on a fairly slow device. Thx I'll wait till they release something standalone
Thanks, Sean, for the tip about the Pixy kickstarter. Would be neat to be able to place a color-coded item on the ground near one's ground control station, and have a multirotor guided home for the last few feet to that exact spot. At least that appears to be possible.
+1 lot. I am not sure how this would work for UAV. CMU cam Ver. 5 should be in the mailbox in the next few weeks based on the latest KickStarter updates and it looks like it is getting faster and more robust. All in a standalone unit. Here is the video showing recognition/ tracking speed
Still getting up to date on CV, but real excited about the potential integration into the APM/Pixhawk platforms.Might even be ready for AVC!!
Looks like a great idea, clearly very important capability for the future.
But even though it is listed as open source, intention is for it to run on specific servers for profit.
My suspicion is that these capabilities will be widely reflected on a more truly open platform that permits free interchange of "objects" for a variety of implementations and uses.
I understand the desire to try to figure out how to fund something like this by identifying a clear economic model, but this particular enterprise is entirely too important to be constrained by their proposed model.
What kind of integration in APM is this if is only available with computers with browser connected to Internet?
If the computations are made remotely this is incompatible with Unmanned Aircrafts if they need to react to the vision.
I think they use the model "software as a service" just for don't release with a free software license.
+1 for Jared's comment. And then there is SAR (search and rescue or recovery).
