GoPro app is out!

Ok it was a very long wait for those of us who bought the wifi back pack to see our GoPro video on our iphone (and other devices too)

But it's out today.

I've tested it and there is like a 3-4 seconds delay so no live streaming that could help us to do cheap (near) FPV... but it's nice to make sure your landing gear/arm is not in the shot.  Also you can see if your lens is clean...

It's pretty much it... kind of a bit sad there is such a long delay... maybe some firmware update will make it faster later..

Update your cineform software to latest before up update the wifi pack and gopro hero2 firmware.

It was a bit bumpy installation (firmware upgrade) but worked in the end.

Let me know if you get better lag time...

  • Hilarously, I bought the hero2 and a wifi bacpak/remote earlier this week, figuring on a several month wait for the app.  Camera and app arrived in the same day.  Timing...

My lag is about the same, 3-4 seconds I think.  I'll time it and see if I can get something consistent.

I was hoping to do some FPV, but S'ok, wouldn't have worked for more than a few hundred feet if you're lucky anyway.  Nor does it work well underwater, as 2.4ghz is absorbed by... you guessed it, water.  That's why microwave ovens work (and hash your wifi or bluetooth signal in the process).

  • I found similar 3-4 seconds delay. The resolution and frame rate is really good so hopefully they can give us the option to sacrifice some quality for lower lag in future updates.

  • Somebody know if the backpack can cause interferences with 2.4 Ghz radios?

No need. I just came from an iPhone and the entire "this is better than" that argument is just a waste of time. Both are good platforms and work very well. I really like Android and this is coming from someone who has been pro-Apple for 5 years.

  • Save your money for an iPhone imo

Man, I was excited until I saw the Android app was delayed too. The WiFi pack was supposed to be released a year ago but it came out in the summer this year so I'm not holding my breath for the Android app. It's a shame because I've been holding out buying the pack until the app was out. Oh well. I'll save my money for something else until then.

  • Bah, the Android version is "coming soon" which in GoPro speak probably means sometime next year.

  • Wow, that delay is CRAZY.  My guess is the backpack reads the data back from the SD card after it has been written.

Contour has a similar setup on their newer cameras, but no need for a backback.  I don't know how long the lag is.
